What is the Wedding of Your Dreams?

So you’re engaged, Congratulations! Now the fun begins, planning your special day. You have all the magazines, you look up everything you can online, you solicit information from friends that have already been through the process, you even join online wedding forums to gain insight about planning your special day. You know, the Wedding Day you have been dreaming about since you were a little girl.

All this time, research, and information and in my 17 years as a Wedding Entertainment Professional as I sit down and discuss the details of this “Once In A Lifetime Event”, less than 2% of the many hundreds of Brides we have served over the years have a real clear vision of what their Wedding Day and Reception really looks like. Why is that? Shouldn’t it be 80% or higher? Wouldn’t you think each and every Bride knows what she wants for her special day?

The truth of the matter is, most of the Brides (and Grooms) we talk to do not have a clear defined idea as to what this day is going to look like. They only know a few key things that they think they should have at their wedding and then they sort of wing the rest. Of course many things are attributed to this “winging it” planning style, money being the number one issue followed by strong willed family members that want to have a say as well.

Since this is a very broad topic it is going to take several entries to cover even just a few of the important topics that can help you get a clearly defined idea of what it is you are wanting to do. Please check back often as we will update this post in segments that are easy to handle. In the mean time here is a very easy homework assignment for you if you are planning your wedding as you read this.

Sit down ether by yourself or with your fiance’ with a sheet of paper and write down every element of your wedding day that you believe is important to you. If it has to do with “How your day will look” then focus on those things. Write down APPEARANCE and under that write down How the room will look at the reception when you walk in for the first time. What color are the linens? The flowers? Will you have chair covers? Where will the cake be? What will it look like? Will there be a Band or DJ? Where will they be?

Be as detailed as you can and don’t forget to do this for the wedding ceremony too. This will be the first step on your journey to really creating your dream wedding as you (both) see it in your mind, and in turn will help you to create a memory of a lifetime.

Check back in and feel free to ask questions.

March Madness

Finished an awesome Family Fun Night for Cochrane Elementary. A great time was had by all with kids, parents, and staff all involved. These are action packed 1.5 hour performances and everyone sleeps good that night.

This week we are focusing on Jenny and Jimmy’s wedding reception. We are very excited for these two and it is going to be an outstanding event.

Video projects are in full swing and we sandwich them in wherever there is time. These projects are perfect when you need to mentally switch gears for awhile.

Karaoke show tonight at Ichiban Samurai and it starts at 9:00.

Weddings

We have been currently meeting with couples about their wedding receptions. This is a totally different experience than what we go through with our Corporate and Bar/Bat Mitzvah clients.

It is nice to have the change of events as it allows us to think in a different way. Weddings have a totally different format and time line, the energy in the room even takes on a different feel from other events as there is a lot more emotion invested in these parties as we take people through the different formalities that are involved.

If you are planning a wedding reception we would love the opportunity to speak to you about your event and how we can help to make it a memorable occasion.

Cotillion Class 2011

Cotillion Class Completed!

The last class was Sunday March 6th and we did an actual Mitzvah style party.

This consists or games and contests and then a Grand Entrance, Hora, Dancing, more Games, more Dancing, and food.

It was a good time and the kids seemed to get a lot out of it.

We were back at it last night for the 2nd to last Cotillion Class for the year.

Tonight we focused on sharing with the kids different ways to look at games and contests at their event and how one style game can translate into several others using the same equipment, props, or theme.

One basic example is how you can use Hula Hoops to do 4 different games.

Our goals is to better prepare the kids for when it is time to plan their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. In our experience the kids want a good time but never really get specific as to what that means to them often leaving the entertainers t come up with a plan that doesn’t always capture what the kids want.

We take time to instruct them on their options based on getting to know them and their personalities. It makes for a more personal experience when we do their party.

It was a great night and everyone had a lot of fun.

Vegas 2011

Finally back from the Mobile Beat DJ Convention in Las Vegas. A week of seminars and networking (and a lot of catching up with friends). I learned a lot of new things that will help my clients.

We also were entertained by Cupid (Cupid Shuffle), Naughty By Nature, Warrant, and The Village People.

The next convention is in June and that one we affectionately call the Hee Haw Convention in Tennessee.

Lots to do in the mean time.

Hello 2011!!!!

Well the hand is healing nicely, I even got to play a bit of guitar with the New Years Eve Band at the club. Still needs some work but I think it will be fine.

Thursday was Family Fun Night at Bowen Elementary. What a great time that was. This show is always special to us because this is where our kids have gone. Always a great time too.

The event is totally interactive from start to finish, non-stop action all the way. This year we put all of our material on paper, cut it into pieces, put it in a hat and let the kids draw out how the show was going to unfold.

This was pretty kewl because I as the MC, didn’t know what was coming and some  of the bits we hadn’t done in years. Like 10 years!!! So it was a surprise to me as well. We had loads of fun.

Friday Night was Winter Dance at KCD. This was an amazing night as well and these kids have a ton of fun. What a great group too. They are a pleasure to entertain.

More to follow and Vegas Convention is just around the corner.

Happy New Year!

The end of the Men’s Wearhouse Tour brought on the holidays. It was also a time I could have some much needed work done on my hand. So with 2010 parties all completed I went ahead with the work.

I gotta tell you this was no fun, but it seems to be healing quickly. I should be ready for my first parties of the year on January 13th and 14th.

We have our yearly trip to Vegas coming at the end of the month. This annual DJ convention is where we reconnected with some of the best minds and talent in the DJ industry. It is an incredible opportunity to grow and learn new things, not to mention the networking and friendships that we develop.

So Happy New Year everyone. My you have an abundant year!

2010 Tour is Complete!

Another successful year of Corporate Holiday Parties is complete! This year included

another trip to New York and New Jersey and then Omaha, OKC, St. Louis, KC, Pittsburgh, Pensacola, and Birmgham. These parties are a lot of fun and there are a lot of great people in attendance.

They have dinner and drinks, an Awards Ceremony, and then the dancing begins. This is my 9th year on tour and this had to be one of the best.

Now it is time to focus on local events.
